A review that I read in (of all places, the Chicago Sun-Times) gave me more information about this show than I ever wanted to know, along with more reason than ever to hate it with a raving passion, along with any company that would put it on the air. A quote from the review (which can be found at http://www.suntimes.com/output/rosenthal/cst-ftr-phil07.html),

"...you have to marvel at the state-of-the-art cruelty behind the network's latest carny sideshow.

Take a bunch of ugly ducklings. Avail them of the latest advances in cosmetic dentistry and surgery. Give them a fitness trainer, a therapist and a life coach to get their acts together.

Then, just when their self-esteem might be inching up, pit them against each other in a lab-rat beauty pageant that guarantees all but one of them will be told on national television that -- even after undergoing every possible physical, mental and emotional improvement -- they're still not good enough."

A show like this panders to the worst in human nature... The need to feel that you're better than someone else. Anyone else. And this show will take people who are already desperate to try and feel better than someone, and turn all but one of them into basket cases. I'm afraid to see what's going to happen to the people who don't win... I'm afrid that the suicide rate of the "losers" over the next few years will be huge. And it wouldn't surprise me to see their sad fates shown on Fox News as leading headlines. Without, of course, anyone at Fox seeing their responsibility in the situation.

I've made two decisions. I have decided that with the advent of this show, I think that I'm glad that Fox has also cancelled "Wonderfalls" after only showing 4 episodes. It was the only show that I had any interest in that showed on Fox, and makes it that much easier for me to stick to my guns with the second decision. That decision is that I'm not going to watch Anything having to do with Fox at all anymore. That includes going to movies produced by 20th Century Fox, such at "I, Robot" and "Alien vs. Predator". Oh, and
/sarcasm
Oh, the pain, I'll have to miss Star Wars Episode III
/end sarcasm

I'm going to do a little research over the next couple of days, and find out what else Fox has it's fingers in. I suspect that it's going to be a hell of a lot, and that's probably going to cause me to change some things. But I can not, and will not, support a company that stoops to revelling in human anguish to make a buck.
